Activities, Events & Programs
Activities and programs offered by the Guilderland Parks & Recreation Department generally require participants to register online to attend. Most activities and programs offered have limited space and/or may charge a nominal fee for attendance. Registrations can be made online by visiting Guilderlandrec.com.
Summer Brochure
Our annual Summer Brochure, which is made available each year in the Spring, can be accessed on Guilderlandrec.com. The brochure provides information about the Town of Guilderland's 1/2 Day Summer Camp program at Tawasentha Park, as well as, various Enrichment and Sports camp programs. There are numerous programs, events and activities offered during the summer months and beyond for town residents of all ages to participate in. The brochure also contains information about Tawasentha Park's Pool, including hours, fees and schedules for open swim, lap swim, Tot Swim and Learn to Swim programs.
Information about our Guilderland Performing Arts Center (GPAC) schedule is also available in our Brochure and online.

Arbor Day
Friday, April 24, 2026
Location: Tawasentha Park
Time: 1:00pm - 4:00pm
Guilderland's Tree Preservation Committee will be giving away tree seedlings on a first-come, first-serve basis.
The event will take place in the main parking circle near the pool building. Tree species and information planting guide packets will be available, as well as word games for children.
Come join in on the fun and learn something new. Our town Arborist and members of the Tree Committee will be there to answer questions on tree planting.
Caring for Your Cemetery Day

Time: 11:00am - 1:00pm
Do you have a passion for volunteering to help keep our cemeteries beautiful? Would you like to learn how to clean and restore gravestones?
Our Parks & Recreation Dept. is hosting a one-day event to share knowledge and teach individuals how to clean and restore headstones, as well as working to clean up winter debris and leaves (weather permitting).
Come and join in on this fulfilling event in keeping our historic town owned cemetery beautiful.
Clean Up Guilderland Day

Location: Various Guilderland Parks
Time: 11:00am - 1:00pm
Various Parks throughout the Town of Guilderland will require spring clean-up involving brush and trash removal. Garbage bags will be provided to volunteers who are willing to assist.
This is a fun outdoor community event anyone can participate in to help keep our parks beautiful for residents of all ages to enjoy.
I Love My Park Day

Location: Tawasentha Park
Time: 10:00am - 1:00pm
Come join in on the fun to participate in the annual "I Love My Park Day" event at Tawasentha Park.
This is a State wide event for local communities to get together and help clean-up state, local and historic lands. Fun for all ages as every little bit of help to beautify our parks is greatly appreciated.
Hometown Heroes Ceremony
Each year we host a celebration in honor of our Hometown Heroes at the Guilderland Performing Arts Center within Tawasentha Park.
The program proudly recognizes active duty and veteran service members, both living and deceased. Each banner will honor a specific current or former Guilderland (including Altamont) serviceperson and will include his or her name, branch of service, and photo. Visit our Hometown Heroes Banner Program web page for more information.
Announcements to each year’s celebration are made annually, generally in late Spring to early Summer. Come join us for a rewarding and educational event for all ages to enjoy. Information on the location of the ceremony and specifics to the event are listed below.
Note: Dates and times are provided annually as the information is made available. The 2026 event schedule will be forthcoming.

Park Access & Parking Directions:
The main entrance to Tawasentha Park is located at 188 State Route 146.
Following entry into the park, through the main entrance and the booth, parking will be accessible in the area situated between the basketball courts and the primary entrance of the Pool building, located at the crest of the hill on the left.
A paved walkway leading to the Guilderland Performing Arts Center is available from the parking area. Handicap access is available on the premises. Assistance will be provided for individuals with disabilities upon request.

National Night Out
A national program designed to get members of the community to meet their neighbors, in an effort to reduce crime in the neighborhoods of the community.

Adult Fitness Swim - Guilderland Residents Age 16+
The pool at Tawasentha Park is open annually from approximately mid-June to late August; weather and staffing permitted. To access the pool area, visitors must be a Town of Guilderland resident.
Lap swimming is available to adults 16 years of age and older for the following days and times:
- 11:00am - 12:00 noon; Monday - Thursday
- 10:00 - 11:30 am; Saturday and Sunday
- $1.00 fee is charged for pool entry; season passes welcome
- Must a be Town of Guilderland resident; proof of residency is required
- Lap swim lanes are limited; provided on a first come, first serve basis
Tawasentha Park Fitness Court
Tawasentha Park now has a Fitness Court that provides a complimentary, accessible, and engaging outdoor fitness experience. Its purpose is to foster healthy lifestyles while promoting community involvement.
The Albany County Parks & Recreation web page provides information on Tawasentha's fitness court, as well as links to monthly scheduled events.
The class registration portal allows individuals to sign-up and register for upcoming classes of interest. Come visit and enjoy the experience.

Youth 1/2 Day Summer Camp at Tawasentha Park
Youth 1/2-day summer camp programs run weekly, for 6 consecutive weeks, generally starting in late June and ending by early to mid-August. Begin and end dates vary each year based on Guilderland’s public-school calendars and the last day school is in session.
Day Camp sessions are open to children entering Kindergarten (in the fall of 2026) to 13 years of age.
Daily hours: 8:00am - 12:00pm, Monday through Friday; camp is not in session for the July 4th holiday; dates may vary based on the day the holiday is observed by the Town of Guilderland.
Transportation to and from Tawasentha Park is offered to registrants, in weekly increments, for the 6-week duration of the summer camp program. A nominal fee is charged for each weekly registration. There are 4 designated school busses, each having specific bus routes with pick-up and drop-off points through-out the bus route. Bus routes may vary each year based on day camp enrollment.
Opportunities to enroll in swim lessons, at no extra charge, is made available to those who register for a two consecutive week session of day camp with swim lessons. There are 3 two-week sessions available:
Session I (weeks 1 & 2)
Session II (weeks 3 & 4)
Session III (weeks 5 & 6)
Due to high demand for day camp with swim lessons, all registrants are placed on a waiting list. The Parks and Recreation Administrative staff will assign daily swim lesson sessions to ensure the appropriate staff to camper ratio is maintained for all swim levels.
Swim classes consist of a 30-minute session daily with a swim test performed on the last day of class.

Summer Enrichment Camps
Enrichment camp programs offer unique opportunities and experiences for campers to learn and expand on their creative skills. Several morning and afternoon camps are offered throughout the summer, at various days and times.
Transportation availability during the summer session may vary based on enrichment camp selection dates and times. Reference the Summer Programs brochure for more information.

Summer Sports Camps
Sports camps offer individuals the ability to learn, test and improve their athletic skills in a structured team environment.
Morning, afternoon and evening camps are offered throughout the summer at various dates and times.
Transportation availability may vary based on sport camp selection, dates, times and location. Please reference the Summer Programs brochure for more information.

The Parks & Recreation Department has Pickleball, Ski and Snowshoe rental equipment available to Town of Guilderland residents for a nominal fee. Rentals are provided daily on a first-come, first-served basis. Please call our office in advance to confirm availability of rental equipment and to schedule your rental pick-up.
A valid driver’s license is required at the time of the rental transaction. We accept cash, check or credit card payments. Please note there is a 3% processing fee applied to credit transactions.

Pickleball Rentals
Pickleball (paddle and ball) rentals are available to rent on a daily basis. Tawasentha Park has two pickleball courts available on a first come, first serve basis.
Please be advised, there are a limited number of paddle and ball sets available.

- A set includes 2 paddles, 1 ball
Cross-Country Ski Rental
There are a handful of skis, ski poles and ski boots ranging from youth to adult sizes to select from.

- A set includes a pair of skis, poles and ski boots

Snowshoe Rental
We have a range of snowshoes from youth to adult sizes to select from.

A special thank you to all individuals who have participated in many Spring, Summer and Fall events and programs to help make them a success. Many individuals have volunteered their time to help with various programs, activities and/or events. Scouting America troops have participated in many Spring clean-up events to help keep our parks clean and inviting for all to enjoy.

SPECIAL THANKS FOR ANOTHER SUCCESSFUL SEASON OF EVENTS
Our summertime concert series was a huge success this year, as well as the performances provided by The Playhouse Stage Company. For the most part the weather cooperated, with a few exceptions. In all 3200+ patrons attended.
Many individuals took advantage of the shuttle services provided by the Town Park staff. Several commented how wonderful it was to be shuttled from the parking lot to the stage and that it made it more easily accessible for them.
The Food Trucks and Concession stand services were enjoyed by all. We are looking forward to another great season in 2026. Once the schedules are finalized, which generally are in late Spring, information will be published on our web. Concerts are free to all. Families of all ages take advantage of the festivities!
